California arthropods
The project is a collaboration across major arthropod collections of California: The California Academy of Sciences (CAS), University of California’s Essig Museum at Berkeley (UCB), Bohart Museum at UC Davis (UCD), and Entomology Research Museum at Riverside (UCR), California State Collection of Arthropods (CSCA), San Diego Natural History Museum (SDNHM), LA County Museum (LACM), and Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History (SBMNH). Our goals are to establish a network for capturing and sharing data across all entomological collections in California, and in so doing, to assess the responses of California's diverse arthropod fauna to environmental change based on the historical processes that have shaped the fauna in the past, hence allowing insights into the future challenges to biodiversity. The project will effectively "release" a huge amount of data that will then become publicly available and of immediate use to one of the world’s most active research communities.
